Ju-82 With reference to your Confidential Despatch of
13
the 12th. September, I have the honour to inform you that on Mr. Alabaster's return from leave I communicated to him your decision as to the form the recognition of his services would take.
2.
The gift of the books, with the book plate ordered by Sir F. H. May, is much appreciated by Mr. Alabaster, but he has some misgiving as regards the proposal that the balance of the sum of 2250 should be expended in purchasing a piece of plate. With various articles which he has inherited, and presents received on the occasion of his wedding, he already possesses more plate than he requires, and he would therefore be glad if the balance of the £250 could be paid to him in cash. If you have no objection I propose to adopt this course.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
Claudlever
Officer Administering the Government.

LEWIS HARCOURT, M.P.,
